    The entire Texas Medical Board (TMB) and its officials have been named in a lawsuit filed by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS). The complaint, filed this week in District Court in Texarkana, accuses the board of misconduct while performing its official duties, specifically:

    1. Manipulation of anonymous complaints;
    2. Conflicts of interest;
    3. Violation of due process;
    4. Breach of privacy; and
    5. Retaliation against those who speak out.

    In a case balancing religious rights and child protection, an appellate court ruled that a mother who loses her child to Child Protective Services still can refuse to have the child vaccinated on religious grounds.

    A divided Court of Appeals panel ruled that Arizona law doesn't empower the state to override a mother's faith-based stance against immunization of her infant daughter, who had been removed for alleged neglect.

    The ruling comes in a Pima County case involving a mother who state officials say failed to provide her daughter proper nutrition.

    The majority opinion said religious freedom is among parental rights that remain in place even after a child is taken into state custody. The decision does not specify the mother's religious denomination.

    The state didn't challenge the mother's religion-based objection to immunizations as insincere, instead arguing that the mother's request for an exemption was invalid. The state argued the child's best interest is paramount under state law, the daughter already was in protective custody when the mother requested the exemption, and exemptions should not apply in cases involving parents incapable of proper and effective parenting.

    The Court of Appeals majority said the state "has an interest of the highest order in the health and welfare of its children" but also needs to weigh that interest against "other societal values."

    The following article is of particular interest because many of us believe that the control of health is just as much a religious right as it is a State right.

    It is unquestionable that the prescription for good physical and mental health, along with necessary medicines, are clearly outlined in scripture. This being the case, one has to wonder whatever happened to the right to follow scriptural directions, or to teach and grant degree's for advanced learning of scriptural health directions. If we have no health ministry and no teachers, how are the people to learn about Gods guaranteed plan for good health ?

    We have no objection to mans control of that which is mans creation. Estabishing educational standards and requiring licensing to prescribe dangerous chemicals and perform major surgery is most certainly essential for public protection. At the same time, assisting and instructing individuals on scriptral medicines should remain a ministry of the church.

    A great man once said "The State will take as much power as the people will allow it to take"

    And that has never been more true than when it applies to our God given rights to mental and physical health. In the following article, the State of Texas decided that they could control the church, but fortunately the people spoke. We at WONMP applaude the Supreme Court justices for slapping the States hand on this one !

    Please tell others about...

    WONMP

    Because Divided We Fall

    In the U.S. alone there are thousands of alternative medical practitioners, and almost as many membership organizations for them to join. Such "coming together" in support of a cause is certainly important, just as is having a registry for practitioners to add to their credibility.

    Unfortunately, these many thousands segregate themselves into smaller groups with similar but varying goals. The result is often little more than a nice certificate of membership to hang on the wall, and the real need, the power to speak and act as an effective force, the power to effect change, is extremely diluted.

    As an example: Whenever potentially harmful legislation is proposed, and one or more "watchdog" groups becomes aware, they will scramble to begin a campaign against it. This usually results in circulation of a petition that garners a few hundred or sometimes even a few thousand names, and the petitioner has to scramble and plead for funds for the fight ahead. Imagine the scenario if these many thousands of practitioners, individuals and organizations acted as one powerful wave. Imagine one petition, delivered at the stroke of a keyboard to an international forum numbering in the hundreds of thousands or millions, backed by the power of an international intergovernmental organization.

    Why We Need One Huge Voice !

     Legislation recently passed in Texas that placed many alternative practitioners instantly on the wrong side of the law and subject to arrest. Texans are not alone, nor are alternative medical practitioners. Other States have passed similar legislation, and practitioners of many other occupations, including bible based practitioners, are similarly effected.

    On a Federal level and unknown to most practitioners and membership organizations, current legislation makes it a criminal offense for any person in the U.S. (traditional or allopathic) to solicit or receive any materials derived from the human body, for any purpose of examination unless that person has met federal and/or State guidelines for such practice.

    The above are but two examples of what happens when we seperate into small groups. Everyone depends on everyone else to give them the "heads up" about harmful legislation. Did your membership organization act against or inform you of how to remain legal in the wake of these new laws ?

    WONMP proposes a change. We have an international presence, recognized and accepted in multiple countries, and represent practitioners and organizations on a world wide scale. We are accredited under the IPSP, an intergovernmental organization, and are fully endorsed by the ancient Christian, Sovereign Medical Order of the Knights Hospitaller. But this is not enough, we must ALL come together to have a truly effective voice, hence, the power to return the choice of medicine to the people. Are we wise enough to stand together ?

    WONMP
    Because United We Stand

    We envision the day, when with the mere stroke of the keyboard, we can rally millions of signatures, from practitioners, citizens, organizations and even governmental entities, objecting to legislation harmful to the right of the people. In many area's of the U.S. it borders on illegal, to even inform the people of effective alternatives to drug therapy, or to help the people that do make a choice about the medicine best suited to their condition. As a voice for traditional and natural medicines, we are not against allopathic medicine as many would suppose, in fact WONMP practitioners are trained in many aspects of conventional medicine. We know that conventional interventions such as surgery and drug therapy are essential in emergencies, and to preserve life when one allows health to degrade to the point of catastrophic occurrence. We believe that conventional, as well as traditional medicine both have a time and place, and the people have a right to know the difference and to make a choice.

    Our voice is also not against the States right to regulate practices under their authority to regulate, those occupations that are a "privilege" of the State by their very nature, such as prescribing drugs. We simply wish to object peaceably, in a very large voice, to the States right to claim authority, under the threat of arrest, for that which is a God given right. The State certainly has no right or authority to attempt control over that which was instructed by the ultimate authority, long before the State was formed, yet that is exactly what happened in Texas recently. Lest we set aside the book of life, and the U.S. Constitution, man can control only that which is man's.

    We appeal to all practitioners to invite citizens, students, practitioners and organizations to join with us in this international movement to freedom of choice, and a return to safe, effective natural medicines. Please remember that ultimately we ask for support to assure the right of the people to choose their medicine unencumbered, and because we need your help to deliver effective medicine, through appropriately trained practitioners, to the people of all nations.

    WONMP
    Because our right to choose is rapidly disappearing...

    Everyone including you, the practitioner,
    will lose their health freedom if we do not all stand together !

    WONMP's affiliate and esteemed endorsing organization, The Sovereign Medical Order of the Knights Hospitaller, formally announced the opening of its School of Medicine in Cuenca, Ecuador, October 13, 2007. After long negotiations, the Sovereign Council approved the Charter of member affiliates participation, SOMA Institute of Ecuador, and the Pan-American School of Natural Medicine.

    Since the invasion of our Order by Napoleon on Malta, 1798, the Medical School was closed and for more than 200 years the Order has not resurrected its school. The Council recognizes that popular medicine is not suited to convey primary care to poverty-stricken regions, and a medical program must be custom tailored for effective training of medical personnel. There are many practitioners in the Americas that would readily volunteer medical services and for that purpose the Sovereign Council of SMOKH voted to initiate its new school of medicine.

    The new school will emphasize the biological sciences, bedside diagnosis, tropical medicine, laboratory, emergency medicine, minor surgery and rural primary care. Academic learning will work in concert with clinical rotations in the rural clinics sponsored and operated by the Order. Already, 16 students are resident in Cuenca ending its first year of classes. This newsletter is announcing its post-graduate program for doctoral candidates interested in this unique medical degree (M.D.) program.
