History of the Gram Stain And More...
    Learn all about Iodine

The Gram staining method, named after the Danish bacteriologist who originally devised it in 1882 (published 1884), Hans Christian Gram, is one of the most important staining techniques in microbiology. It is almost always the first test performed for the identification of bacteria.

The primary stain of the Gram's method is crystal violet. Crystal violet is sometimes substituted with methylene blue, which is equally effective. The microorganisms that retain the crystal violet-iodine complex are called gram positive, appear purple brown under microscopic examination like the cocci strep and staph. The others that are not stained by crystal violet are referred to as Gram negative, and appear red due to retaining the gram’s iodine and a counterstain of basic fuchsin applied to the smeared glass slide to give decolorized gram-negative bacteria a pink color. Besides Gram's stain, there are a wide range of other staining methods available. By using appropriate dyes, different parts of the bacteria structures such as capsules, flagella, granules, and spores can be stained. Staining techniques are widely used to visualize those components that are otherwise too difficult to see under a light microscope. Stains not only stain, but they kill. There is no better way to treat GERD and other stomach disorders than with a good dose of iodine to paint the stomach and kill off helicobacter pylori. In this method of which the author has years of experience, gram’s iodine is used in 5 drop doses per glass of water, three time daily. The GERD is gone by week’s end provided dietary rules are followed.

IODINE SPOT TEST Applying Tincture of Iodine from the drug store to your skin is an economical method of determining a metabolic deficiency of iodine. It is a "test" as well as a "treatment". If the "brown" stain fades in less than 24 hours, it indicates that Iodine is not stored in sufficient quantities in your body. Even if you are taking thyroid supplement orally to stimulate your own thyroid, lack of iodine will interfere with your body's ability to properly utilize it. If you are taking thyroid orally, you may be able to reduce the dosage. This should be done in conjunction with your healthcare provider.

Instructions for Application DO NOT USE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO IODINE. Use applicator rod in the bottle to apply Iodine to upper thigh or lower abdomen (or any other area of skin where the Iodine is visible) in a 3" square patch. Rotate the area of application each time you apply it. Apply as often as you notice that the Iodine has absorbed and the skin becomes clear. For instance, if absorption occurs in 2 hours, reapply immediately; if it occurs in 4 or 6 or 8 hours, reapply whenever you notice that the skin is clear. When you eventually notice a faded brown stain after 12 hours, check in another 12 hours for the stain. Discontinue application when you observe a faded stain at 24 hours after initial application. The objective of the frequent applications is to accomplish the 24 hours slight "stain" as quickly as possible, rather than to have to continue to apply over several weeks time. To be sure that normal Iodine levels are stable, check absorption again in one week. If stain is visible in 24 hours, your Iodine level remains normal. Because stress of daily living can put a strain on your Thyroid, it is recommended that you recheck Iodine absorption every 3 months thereafter. Repeat the process described if it fades in 24 hours or less (in 1 week or 3 or more months). The continued over use and intake of omega-6 cooking oils acts as a thyroid suppressant. To bring your thyroid back to optimal functioning, take omega-3 fish oil, eliminate fried and fast foods, and supplement your diet with sea vegetables.
