    Bioelectrical impedance phase angle
as a prognostic indicator in breast cancer

Dr. Eric Carter’s comment on the following research conducted at

    Cancer Treatment Centers of America:

The following research is an exciting finding for women that have been diagnosed, or are at high risk for breast cancer, and in my opinion, any form of cancer. I have performed this for a number of years, and on many individuals with and without cancer. From that experience I believe the same findings in the following study would hold true for all forms of cancer, not just breast. For those desiring to explore natural forms of treatment for cancer, this test may also provide a marker to let you know when the protocol you decide on is working optimally. As an additional note, I have noticed that phase angle may also be an excellent indicator of whether or not an individual with any form of cancer is likely to survive chemotherapy if this is their chosen treatment. I have seen patients with phase in the 5 or under range that did not survive, while those with PA approaching normal, or about “7” seem to handle chemo just fine (just a non-scientific observation) !

Aside from those with cancer, the Phase Angle score is one of the best ways to determine the status of an individuals health, as it is an indication of what is going on at a cellular level. Many practitioners recommend having the test completed annually to “monitor” overall health status. A decreasing phase angle may indicate a need for additional testing for cancer, diabetes or other forms of disease. The phase angle is used as a “marker” from which individuals and practitioners can work to improve health, and then monitor the results of those efforts. The simple test is inexpensive and non-invasive. The technician simply connects two small electrodes to your right hand and right foot and the test is complete in under one minute.

If you or someone you know is suffering any form of disease, wants to know the cellular status of health, or desires to track health improvement strategies, we invite you to contact admin@wonmp.us today to locate a practitioner in your area that performs this important test. Practitioners that desire information on obtaining testing equipment are also invited to contact us. Be sure to read the study below:

    Abstract

Background: Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is an easy-to-use, non-invasive, and reproducible technique to evaluate changes in body composition and nutritional status. Phase angle, determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), detects changes in tissue electrical properties and has been hypothesized to be a marker of malnutrition. Since malnutrition can be found inpatients with breast cancer, we investigated the prognostic role of phase angle in breast cancer.

Methods: We evaluated a case series of 259 histologically confirmed breast cancer patients treated at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Kaplan Meier method was used to calculate survival. Cox proportional hazard models were constructed to evaluate the prognostic effect of phase angle independent of stage at diagnosis and prior treatment history. Survival was calculated as the time interval between the date of first patient visit to the hospital and the date of death from any cause or date of last contact/last known to be alive.

Results: Of 259 patients, 81 were newly diagnosed at our hospital while 178 had received prior treatment elsewhere. 56 had stage I disease at diagnosis, 110 had stage II, 46 had stage III and 34 had stage IV. The median age at diagnosis was 49 years (range 25 – 74 years). The median phase angle score was 5.6 (range = 1.5 – 8.9). Patients with phase angle <= 5.6 had a median survival of 23.1 months (95% CI: 14.2 to 31.9; n = 129), while those > 5.6 had 49.9 months (95% CI: 35.6 to 77.8; n = 130); the difference being statistically significant (p = 0.031). Multivariate Cox modeling, after adjusting for stage at diagnosis and prior treatment history found that every one unit increase in phase angle score was associated with a relative risk of 0.82 (95% CI: 0.68 to 0.99, P = 0.041). Stage at diagnosis (p = 0.006) and prior treatment history (p = 0.001) were also predictive of survival independent of each other and phase angle.

Conclusion: This study demonstrates that BIA-derived phase angle is an independent prognostic indicator in patients with breast cancer. Nutritional interventions targeted at improving phase angle could potentially lead to an improved survival in patients with breast cancer.

Stephane Bussard, Le Temps: "The 1990s marked a significant advance in international justice. The May 1999 indictment of Serbian leader Milosevic was emblematic of the progress achieved in the fight against impunity. The attempt now afoot by certain Security Council members, including France and Great Britain, to torpedo an International Criminal Court trial even before it's launched could very well squander the benefits of the 'moral decade.'"

If you are a supporter of safe, natural healthcare options,
    WONMP needs your help.

If we are to assure that safe alternatives are available for the children of tomorrow, we must continue tirelessly today to bring new public members and practitioners into membership. This requires advertisement and promotional funding, in addition to our committment to help the needy wherever they may be.

WONMP is "self-funded" through membership fees, and while such fees can offset standard operating expense, they cannot "keep pace" with promotional cost for expansion. We need funding for advertisment, promotional seminars and professionally designed promotional materials. Additionally, we need funding for student training materials, seminar cost and the many more cost associated with growth. As an example, we are considering an advertisement in a regional magazine that will advertise WONMP and bring attention to practitioners for new business. An ad with impact cost is over $800 per quarter.

As a public member you can help WONMP reach its goals, and help assure that safe, natural medicine will be available tomorrow, by upgrading your free listing or complimentary membership to a "supporting" role at $59 per year. You can also canvass your friends and get them in membership. We need more voices speaking for safe, natural medicine, whether complimentary or supporting. If you are affiliated with individuals or organizations that donate to worthwhile causes, please introduce them to WONMP and the Hospitallers.

As a practitioner, you can help us through promoting "supporting level" membership to your patients, by upgrading your membership to professional level or to certification and licensure, by helping WONMP get "linked" to other websites for advertisement, by purchasing items from the WONMP on-line store where we earn a small comission on most.

One of the best ways to help is by promoting WONMP professional membership, certification and licensure to other practitioners, and helping WONMP get linked to high profile websites. Of course, donations are needed and appreciated.

How ever you can help us continue our walk to help the needy, is greatly appreciated

In our on-going committment to bring practitioners and the public together, and to assist natural health practitioners in promoting their services, WONMP will launch a searchable on-line directory in early September.

The directory will be searchable by State/country, and by default will only show that and the practitioners name. Practitioners control what information is listed that the searcher can see, by including the desired information in their profile. Profiles can include a picture of the practitioner or practice, website and email information etc.

Public members (non-practitioners) will also be listed in the directory, to allow practitioners to check and verify membership before services are provided.

To update your WONMP profile, simply login to www.wonmp.us using your email address and your passwod. After login, click at the top right of your screen on "profile" and follow the links from there.

    NEWS RELEASE
Our Grand Chancellor of WONMP has finally released his thirty years work and findings on what he calls that "delicate" subject of Homeopathy. The articles he has written has already caused quite a stir here in our offices and with his advisors in the Sovereign Medical Order. Suffice it to say, it is destined to change the world's viewpoint on Homeopathy. He believes it is necessary at this time of dire need for the populations of the poor and needy. We believe and pray our members will have the same sentiments.

He is releasing this only to our private WONMP list due to the limited number of students the School of Natural Medicine is accepting per annum,  access therefore requires this user name and password:
